I’ve had a long standing love for warm lemon water with a pinch of mineral salt first thing after tongue scraping in the morning. A ritual that feels easy and something I crave for comfort.

We all crave the things we shouldn’t but it’s nice to form habits that benefit us!
A few of the reasons I encourage warm lemon water with a high quality salt.

  • HYDRATING: Floods your body with hydration upon waking which ultimately hydrates your skin from the inside out.
  • VITAMIN C + POTASSIUM:⁣ Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is great for improving the immune system. Vitamin C has been shown to increase the production of white blood cells. Those white blood cells are the defender cells that attack bacteria and viruses. ⁣They’re high in potassium, which supports brain and nerve function.
  • SUPPORTS BILE PRODUCTION:⁣⁣ Lemon water contains certain constituents that can encourage the liver to produce bile which is an acid that is required for digestion (Hecke et al., 2012). Proper bile flow is important for thyroid health! ⁣
  • FAT METABOLISM: In one study, lemon polyphenols decreased Insulin levels in rats that were fed a high fat diet to the same level as rats that were fed a LOW fat diet. In addition, Leptin level decreased, although this was insignificant (Jung et al., 2006). ⁣

Why add SALT?
-Increases Stomach Acid ⁣⁣⁣
-Increases Circulation ⁣⁣⁣
-Reduces Resting Heart Rate⁣⁣⁣
-Helps with temperature regulation, via sweating.⁣⁣⁣
-Supports the Adrenal glands⁣⁣⁣
-Supports Electrolyte balance with essential minerals from the salt

*Side note: If you struggle with heat in your guts or diarrhea, substitute lime for lemon juice as it is cooling and easier on your digestive tract.
